OUR STORY ( WHO WE ARE )

My name is Paul L. Torrence, and together with my partner, we are devoted animal lovers who made it our mission to raise one of the most breathtaking and gentle giant breeds in the world the Leonberger. Our deep love for dogs led us to take on the beautiful journey of breeding, with the goal of helping families find a loyal, magnificent, and affectionate companion to add to their home. We previously raised Golden Retrievers for several years before eventually finding our true calling. The day we encountered our first Leonberger, it was instant, overwhelming love and we never looked back. Our dogs are not kennel dogs. They are a cherished part of our family, raised and socialised inside our home from the very first day. Our puppies are strong, happy, well-tempered, and ready to play straight from our home to yours.

Majestic Leonbergers is a state-registered breeder specialising in raising purebred Leonbergers. Our name reflects everything about this incredible breed they are truly majestic in size, presence, and spirit. We have owned, raised, and loved Leonbergers for over 10 years, and every litter we produce is a reflection of that passion and dedication.

We keep our puppies fully up to date on all vaccinations right up until the time of delivery, and each puppy receives a thorough veterinary health check before leaving us. ABOUT THE LEONBERGER BREED

The Leonberger, affectionately known as the “Leo,” is one of the most majestic and impressive giant dog breeds in the world. With their lion-like golden coat, distinctive black mask, and powerful yet graceful build, Leonbergers are instantly recognisable and endlessly admired. But behind that magnificent appearance is one of the most gentle, loving, and family-devoted dogs you will ever meet.

Leonbergers have a medium to long, water-resistant double coat with a glorious mane around the neck and chest more prominent in males giving them their iconic lion-like look. Despite their massive size, they are incredibly gentle and patient with children, making them outstanding family dogs. They thrive on being close to their people and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Their calm, affectionate nature has also made them widely used as therapy and search and rescue dogs across the world.

Leos are known for their love of water and outdoor adventures. Whether it’s swimming, hiking, or playing in the yard, they are energetic and enthusiastic companions. At the same time, they are perfectly content curling up beside you at home in the evenings. The Leonberger adapts well to various living environments, provided they have enough space to move and daily exercise to keep them healthy and stimulated.

Grooming a Leonberger requires regular commitment. Their thick double coat should be brushed two to three times per week to prevent tangles and manage shedding, with more frequent grooming needed during seasonal coat changes in spring and autumn. Monthly ear cleaning, routine nail trimming, and regular dental care are also essential parts of their grooming routine. Despite the grooming demands, Leo owners will tell you without hesitation that every minute of it is worth it.

The Leonberger is an intelligent, sensitive, and eager to please breed that responds exceptionally well to positive reinforcement training. Harsh or punishment based methods are counterproductive with this breed. Early puppy socialisation and consistent obedience training from a young age are strongly recommended to ensure your Leo grows into a confident, well mannered, and balanced adult dog.

Leonbergers thrive on a high-quality, protein-rich diet designed for large and giant breeds. Nutrition during the puppy growth stage is especially important to support healthy bone and joint development. Always choose food that is free from artificial preservatives, fillers, and colouring. Consult your veterinarian regularly for guidance on portion sizes as your Leo grows.

The average life expectancy of a Leonberger is 8–9 years. Like most giant breeds, they can be predisposed to certain health conditions including Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Leonberger Polyneuropathy (LPN), Dilated Cardiomyopathy, and Osteosarcoma. Our thorough health testing programme on all parent dogs is specifically designed to reduce these risks and give every puppy the healthiest possible start in life.

TEMPERAMENT OF A LEONBERGER

Despite their enormous size, Leonbergers are among the gentlest and most loving dogs you will ever encounter. Many people are initially taken aback by how large a Leonberger is, but that surprise quickly turns to delight when they experience just how calm, affectionate, and patient this breed truly is. Leonbergers are deeply devoted to their families and love nothing more than being in the company of the people they love especially children. They are naturally gentle and tolerant with kids, making them wonderful and reliable family companions.

Leonbergers are sensitive and perceptive dogs that pick up on emotions easily. They thrive in a home where they are included in daily family life, not left isolated in the yard. Positive, reward-based training works best with this breed. Important early lessons include crate training, leash manners, and socialisation with people, children, and other animals, so your Leonberger puppy learns how to carry their big personality in a calm and appropriate way. Their intelligence and desire to please makes training an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both dog and owner.

COLORS OF A LEONBERGER

The Leonberger has a medium to long, flowing double coat that gives them their signature lion like appearance. Accepted coat colours within the breed standard include lion yellow, golden, red, and red brown always accompanied by a clearly defined black mask on the face and muzzle. A black overlay or tips on the outer coat is also common and acceptable. The magnificent mane around the neck and chest, more prominent in males, deepens in colour with age and adds to their regal, lion like presence. White markings on the chest or toes are permissible but should be minimal. The overall look of the Leonberger is one of warmth, elegance, and natural beauty.
